The Nepali Congress Party ( nepali: नेपाली काँग्रेस; engl. Nepali Congress Party - NCP) was established on 25 January 1947 in Calcutta as a Nepali National Congress. They reunited on 9 April 1950 with the Nepali Democratic Congress, also founded in Calcutta and called for the overthrow of the Rana regime.
The party made several prime ministers of the country, including the first ( Prasad Koirala Bishweshwar ) and Girija Prasad Koirala.
The party 's social democratic and is a member of the Socialist International.
On 21 July 2008, the General Secretary of NCP, Ram Baran Yadav, was elected first president of the Republic of Nepal.
