Nephrotoxicity

Under nephrotoxins ( or kidney toxins ) refers to toxic substances (toxins ) that specifically damage the cells of the kidney (Greek nephros).

The renal toxins include mycotoxins, heavy metals, chromates, arsenic, antimony, organic solvents, some antibiotics, steroids, phenylbutazone and some contrast medium.

As nephrotoxins but also bacterial or non-bacterial antigens are known that lead to the formation of antibodies or immune complexes, which in turn trigger a glomerulonephritis, and so harm the kidney.
