Neptunalia

The Neptunalia were a festival in ancient Rome, which was celebrated in honor of Neptune, the god of the waters.

They found 23 July instead of in the heat and drought of summer, probably a ritual to ask for Neptune matter avert a drying up of water supply. About the ceremonies of the feast is as good as nothing is known except that huts were built of branches and leaves, in which the Romans perhaps celebrated, drank and enjoyed themselves., Comparable to the " cottages " of the Jewish " Feast of Tabernacles " ( Sukkot ).

The Neptunalia were a popular, going back to the early Roman festival and were also included in the farming calendar. In imperial times there were also games in honor of Neptune ( ludi Neptunales or Neptunalici ), which merged with the Neptunalia and changed the character of the festival.
