Nerolidol one of the acyclic sesquiterpenes or rather to the sesquiterpene alcohols. It is the main component of the Cabreuvaöls.
Nerolidol has a chiral center and exists as cis- trans mixture ago. Nerolidol is an isomer of the farnesol. Both alcohols containing three double bonds, with nerolidol differs from farnesol by the position of a double bond and the OH group.
Nerolidol occurs in neroli, ginger, jasmine, lavender, tea tree and lemon grass and is a component of many essential oils, such as Peru balsam oil and Cabreuvaöl. The aroma of nerolidol is woody and reminiscent of fresh bark. It finds use as a flavoring and perfume.
