Nerses IV the Gracious

Nerses IV Schnorhali ( the grace ), ( * 1102 in the fortress Tzovk ' ( Elazig ( province ) ), † 1173 ) was " Catholicos of the Armenians " based in Hromkla and the most eminent theologian and poet of his time.

Nerses IV Schnorhali, the grace, belonged to the dynasty of the Pahlavuni. He received his education in the Red Monastery ( Karmir Vanq ) at Kessoun. His brother Gregory III. 1113 was elected Catholicos. Nerses Schnorhali was ordained a priest in 1125 and bishop in 1120. After his election as Catholicos in 1166 he led the ecumenical talks of his brother continue with the Byzantine and Latin Churches.
