Nery Castillo

Nery Alberto Castillo Confalonieri ( born June 13, 1984 in San Luis Potosí, Mexico) is a Mexican footballer who currently plays for Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine. In addition to the Mexican citizenship Castillo has also got the Uruguayan.

Career

Association

Castillo began his professional career in 1999 at Danubio FC in Uruguay. There he completed his first top-flight at the age of 15 years. During a youth tournament in Brazil, he was observed by several European clubs. His father, who also acts as a consultant, decided that a move to Manchester United would be the best option for him, but Castillo received a work permit in England. At age 16, he accepted an offer from Olympiakos Piraeus and moved to Greece, where he was able to establish himself as a regular player and together played with Rivaldo. As a result of good performance, the clubs Juventus and Deportivo Guadalajara were interested in signing, but Olympiakos was not ready to leave him.

In addition to his good performances for the club, he also struck by gaffes and off the field. He was suspended after a brawl with Yaya Toure and Gabriel Schürrer in October 2005 for a short time from training.

In July 2007, Castillo finally went to Shakhtar Donetsk, from where he was, however, awarded after only half a year and eight league games for the rest of the season for Manchester City. In the 2008 /09 season, he came only two brief appearances for Donetsk. His plan to leave Donetsk and again to switch back to Mexico to Guadalajara, have failed so far because the Donetsk players did not want to share. The contract with Shakhtar Donetsk ran until 2012. Having recently the 2012 Apertura played for Pachuca, mid-December, his move to Mexican club Club León from the Clausura was given 2013 known. A rental contract runs for a period of six months.

National

Thanks to its striking benefits Olympiakos Piraeus, the Mexican and the Uruguayan Association were aware of him, for he could both play. However, he could not decide for a country and therefore remained for the time being without internationals. In 2007, Castillo lived for seven years in Greece, long enough for the Greek citizenship to accept and play for the Greek national team. For this he is said to have been offered nearly one million euros. He finally opted for the Mexican national team, for which he has not played 17 games and scored six goals in the process. In the 2007 Copa América, he reached with his team to third place and was the third leading scorer of the tournament.
