The Finkensame ( Neslia paniculata ), also referred to as Ackernüsschen, one of only two species of the genus Finkensame in the family of cruciferous plants is ( Brassicaceae). It is divided into two subspecies, and predominantly flowers in June and July.

Appearance

This annual herbaceous plant reaches a height of about 15 to 80 cm and has a thin taproot. The stem grows upright and is mostly branched in the upper part. The leaves are lanceolate, the lower ones stalked, the upper sitting deep with arrow-shaped base. Stems as leaves have branched and simple hairs. The reichblütigen flower clusters are initially tight and loosen up later on. The flower stems are usually upright and fruiting from about 6 to 13 mm long. The sepals have a length of 1.5 to 2 mm, oblong- elliptic, obtuse, glabrous and yellowish green in color. The petals are colored golden yellow, spatulate, rounded, and are approximately 2 to 3 mm long. The little pods are shaped more or less globose, usually wider than long (in the case of N. paniculata ssp. Thracica as long as wide ), with a diameter of about 1.5 to 3 mm and a reticular - wrinkled surface.

The Finkensame growing in cereal weeds companies. He prefers warm, nutrient and usually calcareous, loamy soils.

Popularization

Neslia paniculata is probably originally native to the South-East European and Central Asian steppes. Nowadays you will find it virtually throughout Europe, Asia and introduced in North America. In Central Europe the Finkensame is scattered widely. In Austria, the species is in the Pannonian area frequently, otherwise scattered to find until rare. In Switzerland, the type occurs rarely and sporadically.

Distribution in Germany
