Nesseby

Nesseby ( Unjárga Sami, Finnish Uuniemi ) is a commune in the Norwegian province (county ) Finnmark.

The municipality is situated on the isthmus between the Varanger Fjord and the river Tana ( Deatnu Sami, Finnish Teno ). To the south it borders with Finland.

The population is spread most often to small settlements along the coast of the fjord. Administrative seat is the place Varangerbotn. Most of the inhabitants belong to the Sami people. The language spoken in Nesseby variant of their language constitutes its own dialect

Since reindeer herds wandered through the isthmus regularly since the end of the Ice Age, the area had already moved early to hunters, of which numerous archaeological finds testify.
