Nestor Courakis

Nestor Kourakis ( * 1947 in Athens ) is a Greek lawyer and professor of criminology at the University of Athens.

Life

He studied law in 1971 at the University of Athens in 1973 and Economic and Political Sciences at the University of Thessaloniki. His doctoral dissertation in the Department of criminal law he has 1977 at the University of Freiburg / Br. obtained with the distinction " summa cum laude". In addition, he completed a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service and the French government in 1977 higher studies in the field of criminology at the University of Paris II and 1979 at the Institute of Criminology of Paris.

In 1984 he began as a lecturer in criminology and penal system, since 1993 he teaches as a professor at the University of Athens, next criminology and economic crime, criminology, penal and criminal policy.

He is a visiting professor at Oxford University, where he has operated and Research 1996, 1997 organized jointly with Roger Hood courses. He was invited to lecture at the University Cyperns, is Editorial Member of journals, in 1999 she took on the leadership of the book series " Εuropean Studies in Law " part, functioned from 2007 to 2010 at the top of the area under the control of the Justice Department's Centre for the integration of former prisoners and participated in various Greek bills and Rekommandationen Council of Europe as an expert. In addition, he has served as director of the Institute for Criminal and criminological research since 2001, the 15 research projects on issues of criminal law science (eg euthanasia ) realized in the framework of the University of Athens, conferences organized and edited 27 scientific books as well and quarterly electronic criminological journal " the Art of Crime " published on the Internet in Greek and English.

Nestor Kourakis is married to the architect Eurydice Kouraki, with whom he has three children.

Honors and Awards

For his scientific achievements, he was honored by the Academy of Athens in 1974 and 1985 by the Greek Strafrechtlervereinigung.

Kourakis has written 14 books and edited and published about 170 specialized studies in journals and Commemorative in Greek, German, English, French and Italian.
