Netty Simons

Netty Simons (born Netty Rothenberg, born October 26, 1913 in New York City, † 1991) was an American composer.

Simons attended from 1928 to 1933, the Third Street Music School. At New York University she studied 1931-1937 at Marion Bauer and Percy Grainger. In 1933, she took piano lessons with Alexander Siloti at the Juilliard School of Music. From 1938 to 1942 she was a private student of Stefan Wolpe, with whom she had a friendship until his death in 1972.

Simons taught at the Settlement Music School and later at the University of Ann Arbor. Simons wrote besides several operas mainly works in chamber music ensembles and vocal works.
