Neturei Karta

Neturei Karta ( Aramaic נטורי קרתא, dt "Guardians of the City" [ie Jerusalem ] ) is an ultra-orthodox Jewish group formed in 1935 that Zionism and the State of Israel vehemently rejects on religious grounds.

History

The organization was created in 1935 as a splinter group of the organization Agudath Jisra'el when it was increasingly less anti-Zionist. The Group believes that a new Israel, after the coming of the Jewish Messiah emerge as " a kingdom " without human intervention and without force of arms, " the basis of which will be the divine service." Since the Torah prohibits to end the exile and establish a state, Neturei Karta sat 1948 from the creation of Israel.

Worldwide, the Group has several synagogues (including Torah Ve'Yira - Jerusalem, Torah U'Tefila - London, Tora U'Tefila - New York, Beis Yehudi - Monsey, NY). The communities of Neturei Karta follow the customs (Hebrew minhagim ) of the Gaon of Vilna, because the origins of these communities in Lithuanian and not in the Hasidic part of the ultra-Orthodox Judaism.

In 2007, burned the Neturei Karta Synagogue in Monsey, New York, down and was completely destroyed. An initial suspicion of arson not hardened.

Criticism

The Neturei Karta position leads to strong polarization: it is rejected by many other Orthodox and non - Orthodox Jews; in the Muslim world, however, she finds many advocates. However, the majority of the Jewish Orthodoxy is not anti-Zionist or less radical way; this leads to tensions within the Jewish community.

The joint anti-Zionist position, a collaboration between Neturei Karta and the PLO resulted. According to Israeli intelligence, the evaluation of Palestinian documents should indicate that Neturei Karta have received financial support from the coffers controlled by Yasser Arafat PLO regularly, and, should that Rabbi Moshe Hirsch, Neturei Karta leading activist, himself a member of the PLO have been.

In December 2006, Moishe Aryeh Friedman and other leading members of the Neturei Karta participated in a conference organized by the Iranian government, most controversial Holocaust conference in Tehran. As a result of criticism of their participation explained the organization:

" We affirmed the reality of the mass murder of Jews during the Second World War. "
