Network Equipment Building System

NEBS ( Network Equipment - Building System ) is an American industry standard that determines the approval of telecommunications equipment and their peripheries in the voice, data and mobile networks of the RBOCs ( Regional Bell Operating Companies ). The scope of NEBS includes EMC and environmental testing and safety testing, and is for the most part of the test standards of Telcordia GR -63 -CORE and GR -1089 -CORE determined. Although NEBS is not the legal requirement of the U.S. authorities, it is still as sharp industry standard TCG ( Telecom Carriers Group ), which includes the telecommunications company Verizon, AT & T and Qwest, required.

NEBS testing laboratories

The NEBS tests must be conducted by test laboratories that are either approved in the U.S. as a NRTL (Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory), or outside the United States are certified by a public authority with accreditation to ISO / IEC 17025. Verizon is in this context the strictest member of the TCG and additionally insists on an ITL (Independent Test Laboratory) award. Currently there are 11 laboratories in the U.S. and a test laboratory in Europe ( NTS Europe GmbH in Munich, Germany ), which are authorized under the Verizon ITL NEBS program. A comprehensive list of accepted Verizon testing laboratories can be found in the web links.
