Network service

A network service is an abstracted function that is provided by a computer network users and devices participate. The focus is the fact that a service is a self-contained functional component from the user's perspective, this function can be realized technically one or more network application layer protocols. For example, the World Wide Web, a service that provides the Internet; this service is technically realized via the network protocol Hypertext Transfer Protocol.

Network services is common that the available resources are shared. In many systems, the so-called services are offered by service providers who can use other workstations to access the resources. Those who request these different services and use, it is called service customers.

Basically, there are different ways of working of a network operating system:

  • Server - centric networks
  • Peer-to -peer networks

  • Authentication ( RADIUS)
  • Configuration (TFTP, HTTP)
  • IP address management (DHCP)
  • Name resolution (DNS)
  • Time ( NTP)
