Network switching subsystem

The term authentication center ( also authentication center ) or English Authentication Centre ( AuC ) denotes a function for authentication of SIM cards over the digital GSM cellular network (usually after switching on the mobile phone). The AuC contains the algorithms A3 and A8 also the secret authentication key Ki of the participants.

Once the authentication is successful, the home location register is able to manage the SIM and GSM services. Further comprising a crypto logical key is generated that is used to encrypt all communications between the mobile phone and the GSM network.

A secure implementation in this area is necessary to prevent the so-called SIM cloning ( SIM cloning ), the possibility of a SIM card for a different issue.
