Neu! 2

Klaus Dinger, Michael Rother

New! 2 is the second album by the Krautrock group Neu! .

Genesis

After the success of the previous album New! Klaus Dinger and Michael Rother made off with drive and ambition to record a follow up album, which was to build on the success of its predecessor.

However, there have already been some inconsistencies between the two musicians; while Rother sought to gain more melodic, Dinger wanted more anarchy and chaos in their music.

But these were not the only problems that the New! opposite occurred: a very tight schedule and low budget record company procured the two other problems. As the production ran out of money, the record company seem to care; it flowed any more money. The project seemed to have stopped.

But New! had an idea: They filled the second side of the plate with variations of the title Super and fresh snow on two pieces they have already published in October 1972 as a single. They left the pieces for the re-recording run faster and slower, let needles fall on the plates and carried out unevenness in the cut.

The album was mid- January 1973 recorded, mixed in early February and finally published in the same year.

In the nineties were different bootlegs in circulation. In 2001, the three new boards were, so also New! 2, on Herbert Grönemeyer's Greenland Records re-released on vinyl and CD.

For individual titles

The record starts with the eleven-minute piece Forever: This title is characterized by Dinger's drums in 4/4-time ( motor ) and the long, monotonous chords Rother from that permeate the title, the whole eleven minutes. The harmonious piece can be considered as a typical New! Plant.

The title Purple Angel is rocking, probably something like New! 's Interpretation of a rock song. Here also genuschelte votes Dinger used.

The first track of the second side is snow 78 It is a variation of the single fresh snow, and that this, among other things instead of 33 1/3 revolutions was played with 78. Fresh snow is like Forever, a very melodic piece; it starts with an intro that is played on the Japan Banjo. As Excentrico Hello! it was also played slower rate, where voices can be heard in the background.

Also the title of Super was varied and included with 78 and 16 revolutions per minute. The particularity of the title are the tape recording of the band's name, which comes at the beginning of use and geschriene voice.

The fourth title of the second page, Cassetto, is the only one who is not a variation of the two singles and super fresh snow. He ends with the sound of a cassette that is "swallowed" by the player.

Effect

Many former critics considered the solution of Neu! as a cheap rotation and blending. Others but this album is considered to be an example of true Krautrock. New! have given her knack of the music industry can be clearly seen, what they think of her; in a way, the consumer. The album has many artists, such as David Bowie, deeply impressed and inspired.
