Neuastenberg is a district of Winterberg in the Sauerland district, North Rhine -Westphalia, Germany. With a little less than 400 inhabitants, it is the second largest " village level " of the city.

Geographical location

Neuastenberg is located on the main ridge of the Rothaargebirge about straddling the Rhine -Weser watershed, on the southern slope of the Kahler Asten. History

The story of Neuastenberg dates back to the 18th century and is closely linked with the history of Winterberg and bathroom Berleburgs. It was founded by Casimir, Count of Sayn -Wittgenstein- Berleburg. The village was, in contrast to the rest of Sayn -Wittgenstein, predominantly Catholic faith. A first Catholic chapel is mentioned for 1810, but that burned a few months later. An independent church was founded in 1876.
