Neue Schule Hamburg

The New School Hamburg is a general education school on the concept of Sudbury schools, which are among the democratic schools. The building is located in Hamburg- Rahlstedt.

It was founded in 2007 by Nena, her husband Philipp Palm, Thomas and Silke Steinfadt Simmerl.

Background

The New School Hamburg is the first school on the existing since 1968 Sudbury model, which was officially approved in Germany. Sudbury - up initiatives by parents, teachers and students there are, however, already since 2000, inter alia, in different states. Sudbury schools are represented on all continents, most numerous in the U.S. and in Israel.

Nena applied publicity the school's foundation and emphasized in choice of words and statements their personal understanding of the anti-intellectual orientation of the Sudbury - concept. This led to criticism from the community of ideals and active Sudbury representative.

The school can accommodate 85 students, which are five teachers. The low number of students appearing explained by the concept of Sudbury. There is a permanent waiting list.
