The Neugrabenflöße, also Floßgraben ( Czech Flájský Plavební kanál or Nový Plavební kanál ) was an approximately 18 km long Floßgraben from the 17th century in the Erzgebirge. It was used for floating timber for mining and metallurgy. From the Floeha at Fleyh ( Fláje ) led to the Freiberger Mulde at Clausnitz.

Course

From Fleyh starting the trench led some 3.5 km to the northwest to the eastern end of the town Český George valley ( Český Jiřetín ). Here he changed his direction by almost 180 ° and resulted in approximately 3 km to the east into Rauschenbachtal. After crossing the creek noise and the Czech-German border, he led back to the west. North of Cämmerswalde the watershed between Floeha and Freiberger Mulde is crossed. From then on, the trench results in a northerly direction through Clausnitz and leads finally to approximately 18 km at the southeastern end of Clausnitz in the Rachel.

History

The trench was built in the years 1624-1629 at the instigation of the Lords of Lobkowicz in Bohemia and Schoenberg in Saxony. The client was the Saxon Elector Johann Georg I.. Already in 1569 were made by the Saxon Upper Bergmeister Martin planners first steps in planning a Floßgraben from the headwaters of the Floeha the Freiberger Mulde, which had to overcome the divide between the two river basins. The Floßgraben served nearly 250 years of transportation of raw wood by the then Fleyh in the Freiberg mining district. With the construction of the railway line from Freiberg to Rechenberg- Bienenmuhle rafting was set to the trench.

Cessation of mining and present

After cessation of mining the ditch was in use until the forties of the 20th century to supply water to the villages George paper mill. After closure of the factory and the channel was forgotten. Today, large parts of the trench are filled and leveled.
