Neumark–Greiz railway

History

Prehistory

As early as 1839 the Greizer manufacturers had tried a connection to the time configured Saxon- Bavarian Railway. Ultimately, this line was conducted entirely on Saxon territory, although a track alignment through the Elster would have made the major bridges in the Vogtland dispensable. Saxony had also later no interest in a railroad in Elstertal because you wanted to allow no competition to the custom tracks.

1855 Railroad Building Association was set up to establish a connection path to the Saxon- Bavarian Railway in Greiz. A treaty between the Principality of Reuss elder line and the Kingdom of Saxony created on November 3, 1863, the conditions for the construction. On June 30, 1864, the Greiz- Brunner Railway Company was constituted.

Construction

On September 17, 1864, construction began on the route. Starting point of the new line was the Neumark train station, from where the first tracks of the Saxon- Bavarian Railway were shared. In the newly built Brunn stop the track from the main track branched off to then lead Aubachtal to Greiz. Your endpoint had the first track in the later Greiz- Aubachtal station. The construction works were carried out very quickly, so that in October 1865, the track was completed. On 21 October 1865, the line was opened with a procession; the regular train traffic was recorded on 23 October 1865.

The Greiz- Brunner Railway Company was nationalized on January 1, 1876, and the route Neumark - Greiz now belonged to the network of the Royal Saxon State Railways. Immediately thereafter, construction began on the short connecting track to Elstertal web. Directly after the recent Station in Greiz had a 200 meter long tunnel will be excavated in order to embed the route from the south to the railway station situated on the Elstertal Greiz can. On October 15, 1879, the two-kilometer long connection railway was put into operation.

As the last line extension, the NG- line given its own track between Neumark and Brunn, which was put into operation on 19 May 1886.

1924 this former main railway was downgraded to a branch line.

After the political changes of 1989/1990 the number of passengers from the trains took in more and more.
