History

On 31 May 1866, the route Neumünster Ash Mountain ( Holst ) Eutin -Neustadt in Holstein opened. Operators was the Altona- Kiel Railway Company, which was nationalized in 1884 at that time. In the course books, the route soon appeared in three parts. From mountain ash to Eutin she had become part of the railway route Kiel -Lübeck. The easternmost route piece of Eutin to Neustadt was henceforth operated as own route.

From 1912 to 1961, the track in Wankendorf of the narrow-gauge railway Kiel Segeberg was crossed. However, the rail networks were not connected.

The line was almost continuously operated equally in passenger and freight transport. Had the greatest run length of a passenger train from the 1950s to 1970s, the Eilzugpaar Busum Eutin and later Heide- Neustadt, which paced the state almost the full width. In the 1970s, these fast trains were mostly driven by the series 515. They held between Neumünster and mountain ash only in Wankendorf and reported in this section, a driving time of 20 minutes, while the local trains were about 28 minutes on the road. These trains were mostly as a railcar, but partly also lokbespannt. Some passenger trains were bound by to places beyond the track.

On September 29, 1985, the passenger traffic between Neumünster and mountain ash has been set. This is the distance to this day (2010) next to last in Schleswig-Holstein in passenger abandoned lines ( 1988, passenger traffic on the route Wilster - Brunsbuttel has been set). The freight was followed on 1 November 1995., But the track was not deconsecrated today, but until 2007 was part of Schleswig-Holstein -wide route support contract. However, a railway bridge near the Aschenberger station in 1996 was canceled, and then expanded the connection points. The entrance tracks made towards Neumünster are partly built over. In October 2006, the barriers at the level crossing Christian Street were dismantled and on both sides of the street, a fence across the tracks was drawn. The rails are left on the initiative of the city in the street. The bridge over the Dosenbek in fallow fields woods is blocked with a railing.

Between Bokhorst and Wankendorf trolley rides are offered.

Bus number 360 of the transport companies Plön leads from Plön to Neumünster, combining formerly served on the rail places along the route.

Future of distance

The route Neumünster - ash mountain was repeatedly the object of discussions regarding a reopening. A resumption of the operation is still questionable, since the route is interrupted and non- travelers in the relation Neumünster - Holstein Switzerland not a huge customer base is to be expected. The connection from Neumünster to Lübeck is possible since the reopening of the railway line Neumünster -Bad Oldesloe 2002, again on Bad Oldesloe. The new draft of the statewide transportation plan ( LNVP ) provides another route support no longer exists. The council of the district of Plön spoke in November 2008 against a restart from. In some riparian communities, and the parliamentary group of Alliance 90/The Greens, there are still interested in a receipt route.

On June 30, 2009 must DB Services Immobilien at the Federal Railway Office in Hamburg exempting the stretch of railway operations purposes. During the opposition period of eight weeks, the declassification was objected on the part of different communities affected as well as the Rhein- Sieg-Eisenbahn. In October 2010, the Federal Railway Office has refused the exemption of the land and thus the official closure of the route.

On 6 January 2010, the club active region Schwentine - Holstein Switzerland decided at the request of the town of Plön, to support a feasibility study for the reactivation of the route Neumünster - ash mountain financially. Cooperation partner of the town of Plön are mainly the Rhein- Sieg-Eisenbahn GmbH, Neumünster and the Friends of East Holstein train newly founded eV

With effect from 15 July 2013, a new attempt was started on the part of DB AG, to obtain the exemption of the track at the Eisenbahn -Bundesamt. Due to a technicality, the application dated August 5, 2013 was once again in the Electronic Federal Gazette. Again, the exemption was rejected. DB AG pulled it back towards their application in late January 2014.
