Neunkirchen am Potzberg

Neunkirchen am Potzberg is a municipality in the district of Kusel, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Altenglan

Geography

Neunkirchen am Potzberg lies southeast of the county town of Kusel. The Potzberg, who is " King of the Westrich " a 562 m high mountain in the Western Palatinate. Wildlife Park, Lookout, hotel and hiking trails make it a popular tourist destination.

To Neunkirchen includes the residential places Kreuzhof and Talhof.

History

" Neunkirchen " on Potzberg is mentioned for the first time in 1329 in a document.

The place bears the name of his church in the place names. Named the " new church " probably to distinguish it from the old St. Peter's Church of Theisbergstegen, the mother church of Neunkirchen. Until the Reformation stood in Neunkirchen at the site of the present " Union Church," a chapel, which was dedicated to Saint Cyriacus. On the Kirchberg Cyriakus the market place on the feast day of the saint, August 8, instead. In the 17th century, this market was then replaced by the still celebrated Jacob Kerwe.

During the Reformation, the chapel has been converted into a Lutheran parish church. The old Gothic church, with massive round tower, eingewölbtem choir and stone pulpit was supposedly rebuilt under Leopold Ludwig, Count Palatine of Pfalz- Veldenz. 1750 a reformed church was built in Neunkirchen on the Kirchberg after the Reformed had it accumulated abundant throughout Germany and beyond. In the Palatine Church Union of 1818 the Lutherans and Reformed were merged. 1825 this union was the visible expression in the new building of today's " Union Church." Architect of this church was Paul Denis, royal Bavarian engineer and known as the builder of the Palatine Ludwig Railway. Today, still remembers a Gothic pointed arch windows on the old medieval church. After a thorough renovation today is the old organ with its magnificent prospectus replayable, built in 1784 by the Meisenheimer organ builder Philipp Daniel Schmitt.

The Protestant church on the Kirchberg dominates today the houses of the village and overlooks the village of Neunkirchen am Potzberg. Cherishes From the fortified enclosure of the old cemetery and shaded by the ancient court Linde, she offers here a picturesque ensemble and is the jewel of this Potzberggemeinde.

The local council in Neunkirchen consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Coat of arms

The blazon of the arms is: " Of gold and black split. The right is a red church on the left rotgekrönter and reinforced golden lion ".

It was awarded in 1975 by the District Government Neustadt. The Lion and the gold and black colors are taken from the coat of arms of the Electoral Palatinate, which exercised the lordship until the French Revolution. The church symbolizes the place name Neunkirchen, which derives from New Church.

Economy and infrastructure

In Neunkirchen, there is a kindergarten, a primary school and a library. In the southwest is the A 62 in Theisbergstegen is a railway station of Glantalbahn.
