Neurochemistry

The neurochemistry is a discipline of neuroscience that deals with the study of chemical processes in the nervous tissue. As the founder of Neurochemistry (then referred to as " brain chemistry") applies Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Thudichum ( 1829-1901 ).

She studied with molecular biological, biochemical, electrophysiological and microscopic methods, the activity of the molecules involved in neuronal activity. This includes both the molecular mechanisms that lead to the release of neurotransmitters into the synaptic cleft, as well as the interaction of neurotransmitters with receptors of the target nerve cell to which they are coupled to open canals, or flow out through the ion, which leads to a change in the action potential of the cell. The investigation of neurohormones in the central nervous system is one of the tasks of Neurochemistry.

The Diagnostic neurochemistry also plays an important role in the detection of diseases. A key method here is to examine the cerebrospinal fluid.
