Neusiedl am See (Hungarian: Nezsider, Croatian: Niuzalj ) is a town with 7285 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Burgenland in the district of Neusiedl am See in Austria. The shopping and city school district of Neusiedl am See is the same suburb ( Burgenland name of the district capital ).

Geography

Neusiedl am See, located in 133 m above sea level, is located on the northern shore of Lake Neusiedl, between the foothills of the Leitha Mountains and the Parndorfer. The municipal area is dominated by the surrounding vineyards and by the Calvary and the clay massif Mount Tabor.

650 ha of urban area lie in the National Park Zitzmannsdorfer meadows

Climate

In Neusiedl am See in Burgenland, a new temperature record was recorded at 08:08 in 2013 with a maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius.

History

The first mention of " Sumbotheil " (Eng. Saturday market ) dates back to 1209. Middle of the 13th century the town was destroyed by the Mongols and repopulated by 1282 under the name " Niusidel ". 1517 Neusiedl was granted market rights. Neusiedl 1683 was devastated by the kuruc during the second Turkish siege in 1708. 1926 received city rights of Neusiedl am See, to which had been applied for in vain in 1824.

The place was like the rest of Burgenland to 1920/21 Hungary ( German West Hungary). After the end of World War II German West Hungary was awarded in the Treaties of St. Germain and Trianon in 1919 Austria after tough negotiations. The place belongs since 1921 to the newly founded State of Burgenland (see also history of Burgenland ).

Coat of arms

The oldest form of the coat of arms is derived from 1592nd It shows three towers, the average is higher, rejuvenated after casually and wearing a peaked roof with roof core and in the basement and first floor one window. The two side towers are slimmer, no windows and also carry a pitched roof with roof core. In the foreground of the lake is indicated. The colors are not known.

In later form the coat of arms shows on red plate signed three provided each with a high Rundtor square towers in silver with a protruding battlements cross of three pinnacles. The central tower with inserted hipped roof is higher by a crenellated width, and the round arch is too high. The side towers carrying high pointed roofs used. The market colors were silver ( white) and red

The newer form of coat of arms of the last century was in use again shows three towers with marked irregular blocks. All towers have been rejuvenated by the brim, the side towers over the central tower. The towers take on the battlements cross patch tent roofs. The central tower has a Rundtor, the other two are rectangular. Upstairs each tower has a pair of windows, these are tilted in the side towers. The colors were: coat of arms image silver, red blazon of arms certificate is unknown.

Since the city survey in 1926 Neusiedl am See results in as a town green and white.

Mayor of Neusiedl am See is since 1997 Kurt Lentsch (ÖVP ) and was last re-elected in 2012 with 52.0 % of votes.

The council has (according to local elections 2012) 25 members and is composed as follows:

  • Green 2 mandates (10.79 %)
  • FPÖ 1 mandate ( 5.28% )

Twinning

Neusiedl am See has since 1987 been twinned with Deggendorf, a city in the Lower Bavarian district of Deggendorf in Germany.

Culture and sights

  • Tabor ruin: the Tabor mountain situated ruin, probably built in the 16th century as a military watchtower against the Turks, later the southernmost terminus of Kuruzzenschanze ( Alte Schanze ) in the fight against the insurgents under Francis Rákóczi.

Within the European competition " Entente Florale Europe " the city in 2011 was awarded a silver medal in the city.

Economy and infrastructure

Neusiedl lives of viticulture, tourism and many other businesses. Thanks to the convenient transport links to the Greater Vienna, the city since the 1980s, one of the highest population growth rates in Burgenland.

Traffic

Neusiedl am See hotel has excellent transport links to the Greater Vienna area via the A4 motorway and two railway stations. The terminus of the Neusiedler Seebahn located in Neusiedl. The nearest airport is Vienna - Schwechat ( 20 minutes away ); also is the Bratislava airport is 30 minutes away by car.

In November 2007, the motorway link was Neusiedl am See - Bratislava opened ( A4/A6 ). Neusiedl is also the hub for many ÖBB buses.

Since December 2006 Neusiedl am See has its own transport network (mobile neusiedl ) is conducted under the name ne'mo.

With the narrow gauge railway to Lake Neusiedl Neusiedl had the city on the lake from 1928 to 1939 its own streetcar line, which was not electrified.

Established businesses

In Neusiedl am See numerous industrial and commercial enterprises are located. At the motorway exit since the late 1990s resulted in a large business park, with a technology center. Immediately to Neusiedl am See adjacently in Parndorf a designer outlet center with dozens of stores of fashion brands. Government and public bodies

As a district capital is Neusiedl am See seat of a district court and the district team. The Public Employment Service has its district headquarters also in the city. Since the 19th century was in Neusiedl am See Berger barracks, which was used until mid-2006 as part of the Army mission of the armed forces at the Hungarian border. By the end of July 2006, the barracks was, however, abandoned and razed to the listed main part of the ground to make way for townhouses. Also located in Neusiedl a police post.

Also, the district branch of the Red Cross, which was commissioned by all municipalities of the district with the ambulance service is located in Neusiedl.

Educational institutions

In addition to a public and a private Roman Catholic elementary school and a Roman Catholic. Girls secondary school located in Neusiedl am See, a special school, a sports school, a polytechnic school and a Bundesgymnasium and realgymnasium. Other schools are an institution of higher education for economic and tourism ( Pannoneum ), a commercial college and trade school ( Academy of Management), which in 2005 celebrated its 30th anniversary, as well as an agricultural college.

Neusiedl am See features a newly -developed beach with sailing center and school for kitesurfing and windsurfing. In addition, the beach offers beach volleyball and beach soccer courts and a basketball court. In addition there are in Neusiedl am See indoor swimming pool ( with next to it gelegenem Fun or the skate park ), a golf course, tennis courts, a football field with natural and artificial turf and a horse farm. Especially popular Neusiedl am See with cyclists as it is right on the bike trail around Lake Neusiedl.

Tourism

The peak season for tourism is due to the beach, in summer, with visitors mainly from the Greater Vienna, but also numerous guests from southern Germany use the nearby possibility for swimming, surfing and sailing here. From spring to late autumn is Neusiedl am See, thanks to the convenient transport links, a popular starting point for cycling tours in the region of Lake Neusiedl.

In the winter months also ensures that for weeks closed frozen lake for ice skating and numerous Eissegel tourists.

Due to the success in sailing at the Olympic Summer Games 2000 in Sydney, a national sports center for youth development of sailing was established in Neusiedl.
