Neustadt (Ontario)

New Town is a village in the southwest of the Canadian province of Ontario. It is located in Grey County and is part of the municipality of West Grey. The village has about 300 inhabitants and is located about 15 kilometers south of Hanover.

The settlement was founded in 1855 by German immigrant David Winkler. Until 2000, New Town was an independent municipality, as it merged with several other villages of the municipality West Grey. The most famous inhabitants of Neustadt is the former Canadian Prime Minister John Diefenbaker, who was born here in 1895.
