Neuvecelle

Neuvecelle is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Neuvecelle is located at 450 m above sea level. M., 10 km east of the town of Thonon -les- Bains ( straight line ), immediately to the east then at Evian- les- Bains. The village is located in the Chablais, a scenic location on the lower northern slopes of the plateau of the Pays de Gavot, approximately 80 m above the lake level of Lake Geneva.

The area of ​​4.00 km ² municipal area includes a section on the south bank of Lake Geneva; the lake shore line is only just 0.5 km. From the shores of the lake community area extends beyond the relatively gently but steadily rising slope up in the forest area of ​​the Bois de Forchez and to the edge of the plateau. Below the hamlet of Saint -Thomas is 860 m above sea level. M. reached the highest elevation of Neuvecelle. The slope is drained by the village stream Ruisseau de Forchez.

Neighboring communities of Neuvecelle are Maxilly -sur -Léman in the east, Saint- Paul-en -Chablais and Larringes in the south and Publier and Evian- les- Bains in the West.

History

Today's local name evolved from the earlier forms of the name Nova Sella and Neuveselle what about means as much as new seat of power. In the 19th century and early 20th century Neuvecelle underwent a significant economic development as neighboring resort of Evian- les- Bains. The municipal area including the Royal, the Hermitage and the Splendide (all between 1900 and 1910 ) several large hotels were built.

Attractions

The church dates from the 19th century. Also worth mentioning is the funicular that runs from Evian after Neuvecelle. The operation was discontinued in 1969, but resumed after a restoration of the facilities in 2002.

Population

With 2657 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Neuvecelle belongs to the medium-sized towns in the Haute-Savoie region. In recent decades, a continuous strong growth of population was recorded thanks to the beautiful residential area. Almost the entire hillside is now built over loose with single family homes, villas and tourist facilities.

Economy and infrastructure

Until far into the 20th century, the old core of Neuvecelle was a predominantly coined by agriculture village. Today, it is mainly an attractive place to live. Many working population commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, especially in Evian- les- Bains and Thonon -les- Bains, their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares, but is easily accessible from Evian- les- Bains. Further road links exist with Champanges, Saint- Paul-en -Chablais and Maxilly -sur -Léman.
