The Coat of Arms description is: " Argent, a golden tip is swept, in a rechtshin border blue peacock with tail drooping; Up front a continuous black, the back one continuous red cross ".

The coat of arms three figures refer to the three until 1803 or 1806 in the district existing territorial rule: the peacock is the county Wied, the black cross of the Electorate of Cologne and the Red Cross for the Electorate of Trier.

The peacock is a rare symbol in heraldry. The coat of arms was designed in 1925 by the Neuwieder painter and graphic artist Gustav Bernhard Rüschhoff and approved by the competent Prussian Ministry of State on July 14, 1927. It is therefore one of the oldest county coat of arms of Germany. The Prussian counties were - like the country mayors ( 1927 Institutes) and rural communities - to the period after the First World War not as a " coat of arms capable of ".
