Nevada City is the county seat of Nevada County, California, 267 miles north-east of San Francisco. The name comes from the Spanish word meaning " snow- covered".

The colonization of Nevada City began in 1849 during the gold rush. Nevada County was in 1850 the most important gold mining area in California. The city rights were granted Nevada City in 1885.

1900, Nevada City 3250 inhabitants, on this population has until now little has changed: in 2000 there were 3001 inhabitants.
