Nevado Mismi

Nevado Mismi of South - East

The Nevado Mismi is a mountain massif in the Peruvian Andes mountains.

The Nevado Mismi has a height of 5597 m and is 20 km northwest of the town of Chivay in the Arequipa region, about 160 kilometers west of Lake Titicaca and 700 km southeast of Lima, the capital of Peru.

In 2001, confirmed an expedition of the National Geographic Society that according to present knowledge lies on the northern slopes of Nevado Mismi the true source of the Amazon river. There arises the Río hornillos which transports the glacial waters of the mountain over the Río Apurimac, the Río Ene, the Río Tambo and the Río Ucayali north until it connects to the north-eastern Peru with the waters of the Marañón to the headwaters of the Amazon.
