New Canaries

Nueva Canarias (NC ) is a regional party in the Spanish autonomous community of the Canary Islands.

The NC was born from the Nationalist Canary Initiative ( ICAN ), a wing within the party alliance Coalition Canaria (CC ), from which they broke away on 25 February 2005. Office of the NC is in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, ideologically it assigns itself the center-left to. Party chairman is the former President Román Rodríguez Rodríguez canary. This was the time of the founding of the Party for the CC elected member of the Spanish Congress of Deputies. After a transitional phase in the CC and NC formed a common fraction, Rodríguez Rodríguez joined 2007 from the fraction, whereupon this dissolved.

2006 United Nueva Canarias and the initiative for La Palma ( INPA ) with the Nationalist Party of Lanzarote ( Partido Nacionalista de Lanzarote, PNL) to compete on the local elections on May 27, 2007 in a combined list. Four representatives were elected to the Parliament of Gran Canaria and two in the Lanzarote. In the simultaneous regional elections but failed the entrance of the NC to the Canarian regional parliament with 5.58% of votes short of the 6 per cent threshold.

In the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2008 came to NC only in the province of Las Palmas. Here they exceeded 7.57 % of the vote, although the result of the CC ( 5.94 %), but could not reach a seat in the House of Representatives.
