New Cross Gate railway station

New Cross Gate is a railway station in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the junction of New Cross Road and Hatcham Park Road, about 600 meters west of the station New Cross.

By New Cross Gate to a distance of branches of the East London Line, a line of the London Overground. Trains of Southern Railways operate on the Brighton Main Line between London Bridge and Brighton. In 2011 there were 3.012 million passengers the station.

Railway

During the British railway boom in the late 1830s, two different companies built tracks in the area. The London and Croydon Railway ( L & CR), opened on June 5, 1839 a railway station at the junction of New Cross Road and Hatcham Park Road. The South Eastern Railway (SER ) was followed on October 1, 1850 with a station at the junction of New Cross Road and Amersham Way. Both companies call their stations New Cross.

This confusing situation remained until 1923 consist, as both companies went up in the Southern Railway. To avoid further confusion, the station was renamed on the road to Brighton in New Cross Gate.

East London Line

On December 1, 1884 took the Metropolitan Railway (MR, now the Metropolitan Line) and the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line ) underground operation on. At the beginning of the MDR- platforms were a few dozen meters away, but were laid on 31 August 1886, for the actual station to provide improved connections. The MDR ceased its activities on 31 July 1905, the MR, so that the line temporarily served only to freight on 2 December 1906. As of March 31, 1913 sailed features of MR again the now electrified East London Line. Since the closure of the connecting curve St Mary 's Curve at White Chapel on 5 October 1941, the East London Line was operationally independent.

Between 25 March 1995 and 25 March 1998, the entire route was closed due to renovation and modernization works to all traffic. On 22 December 2007, the East London Line was closed again in order to modernize them and extend at both ends. Since 27 April 2010, after two and a half years of construction, open again and become a part of London Overground. New Cross Gate was initially for four weeks, the southern terminus, the trains since 23 May 2010 Next to Crystal Palace and West Croydon.
