New Cross railway station

New Cross is a railway station in the London Borough of Lewisham. It is located in the Travelcard Zone 2 at the junction of New Cross Road and Amersham Way, about 600 meters east of the station New Cross Gate.

In New Cross ends a Streckenast the East London Line, a line of the London Overground. Trains of the railway company Southeastern run south to Kent, in the north to the train stations Cannon Street and Charing Cross. In 2011 there were 2.063 million passengers the station.

Railway

During the British railway boom in the late 1830s, two different companies built tracks in the area. The London and Croydon Railway ( L & CR), opened on June 5, 1839 a railway station at the junction of New Cross Road and Hatcham Park Road. The South Eastern Railway (SER ) was followed on October 1, 1850 with a station at the junction of New Cross Road and Amersham Way. Both railroad companies called their stations New Cross.

This confusing situation remained until 1923 consist, as both companies went up in the Southern Railway. To avoid further confusion, the station was renamed on the road to Brighton in New Cross Gate, while the train station on the road to Kent retained its name.

East London Line

On December 1, 1884 took the Metropolitan Railway (MR, now the Metropolitan Line) and the Metropolitan District Railway (MDR, now the District Line ) underground operation on. The MDR ceased its activities on 31 July 1905, the MR so that the route temporarily served only to freight on 2 December 1906. As of March 31, 1913 sailed features of MR again the now electrified East London Line. Since the closure of the connecting curve St Mary 's Curve at White Chapel on 5 October 1941, the East London Line was operationally independent.

Between 25 March 1995 and 25 March 1998, the entire route was closed due to renovation and modernization works to all traffic. On 22 December 2007, the East London Line was closed again in order to modernize them and extend at both ends. Since 27 April 2010, the route is two and a half years of construction, open again and a part of London Overground.
