New Dorp, Staten Island

New Dorp ( anglicization of Nieuw dorp, Modern Dutch for Neudorf ) is a district in the Borough of Staten Iceland, a borough of New York City, and Richmond County (similar to a county ) of New York State in the United States of America.

Native

Like the rest of Staten Iceland, the area of New Dorp was populated by Native Americans for over 10,000 years. At the time of arrival of the first European emigrants in the 17th century it was by members of the Raritan, and other tribes of the Lenni Lenape (also called Delaware) inhabited.

European settlers

The first documented settlement of European settlers took place in 1671. After the British had taken the New Netherland colony, she expanded the Dutch settlements along the south coast, called Oud dorp (old village), who were ten years earlier.
