New Effington is a village in Roberts County in the U.S. state of South Dakota. New Effington has 233 inhabitants on an area of ​​0.7 square km.

History

Around 1911, there have been rumors a railway line through the area should the then " Effington ", about five miles northeast of the later New Effington, lead. The farmers in the area was offered to support this project with U.S. $ 200 per quarter. The offer was repeatedly adopted because it provided farmers the option in view of being able to transport their products more easily over long distances. 1913 was the railway line, which ran from Fairmont in North Dakota according to Veblen, South Dakota.
