New England's Dark Day

As a Dark Day ( dark day ) has gone down in history May 19, 1780. On this day it was the day exceptionally dark in the area of New England. Many people believed that the last day had dawned. The darkness, which began in the morning, took in some parts of the region on the whole day.

The reason for this phenomenon has never been fully understood. There are a number of theories:

  • The ashes of a volcano have spread in the air and swallowed a portion of the sunlight. However, the matching volcano missing to this theory.
  • Smoke from forest fires have darkened the sky.
  • A solar eclipse can be astronomically impossible.
  • Some Christian denominations held (and hold partly still is) the event for the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. ( Mat 24:29, Isaiah 13.10; Rev. 6:12-13 )
