New Eritrea Party

The New Eritrea Party ( in Tigrinya: Mahber Hadas Ertra ) was a political party in Eritrea. It was founded as the New Eritrea Pro- Italy Party on 29 September 1947 by members of the Eritrean war veterans' association and the Italo - Eritrean Association.

The party advocated the Italian trusteeship over Eritrea in preparation for the full national independence of Eritrea.

Omar Mohammed Baduri was the party president, Blatta Mohamed Abdella Ali Vice- president of the party.

Development

The party was one of the four Eritrean political parties, which were invited to hold the meeting on the Eritrean question in the General Assembly of the United Nations from April to May 1949. Two representatives of the party traveled to New York City - Mohammed Abdulla and Mohammed Tatok. At the United Nations, Mohammed Abdulla took over the party's position as a supporter of the Italian trusteeship in preparation for independence. It follows that the various pro -independence parties formed a close alliance and began to formulate similar positions in view of the independence of will.

In May 1949, the party changed its name to the New Eritrea Party. At the same time they reformulated their political agenda and supported the immediate independence. The party advocated the formation of an alliance with the Independent Muslim League. In June 1949, the party member party of the Blocco Independenza was (Italian independence block ). The independence bloc called for full independence of Eritrea in the borders of 1936.

The party did not manage to win in the elections to the regional National Assembly of the Ethiopian province of Eritrea now 1952 any seats.
