New Generation Party

The Partidul Noua Generation - Crestin Democrat ( PNG - CD, German New Generation Party - Christian Democrats) is a political party in Romania.

History

The formation was created in March 1999 under the name Partidul Noua Generation. She was initially a party in the center of the political spectrum in Romania and was led by Viorel Lis, the former mayor of Bucharest.

In January 2004 George Becali took over the party chairmanship; he set up the party in accordance with its views of ultra- conservative, nationalist and political- religious. He is the undisputed leading figure of the staff devoted entirely to him party.

The pronouncements are Becali content similar to those of Corneliu Vadim Tudor, the leader of the Partidul România Mare ( Greater Romania Party ). Accordingly, the political positions of both parties are comparable. However, a cooperation did not exist because Becali and Tudor are at odds personally. After the parliamentary elections in 2008, when both parties failed to enter parliament to Becali and Tudor converged; Becali managed in the European election on 7 June 2009 on the list of the Greater Romania Party representation in the European Parliament.

In April 2006, the party adopted its present name.

The PNG - CD denies the participation of Romania in the Holocaust during the Second World War. Because of the party itself consciously made ​​connections to the traditions of the Iron Guard, the PNG - CD 2006 International Religious Freedom Report of the U.S. State Department was mentioned.

Election results

To date ( 2008) was able to achieve no decisive electoral success at the national level, the party; in the 2004 parliamentary elections and elections to the European Parliament in November 2007, it failed at the five percent hurdle, respectively. In opinion polls, the PNG - CD 2007 could temporarily recorded up to 18% of potential voters in the course of the year.
