New Haven County, Connecticut

New Haven County is a county located in the state of Connecticut in the United States. The largest city in the county and the county seat ( county seat ) is New Haven. There is also the well-known Yale University.

Geography

The county has an area of 2233 square kilometers, of which 664 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Hartford County, Middlesex County, Fairfield County and Litchfield County.

History

New Haven County was one of four Gründungscountys 1666.

Historical buildings

At 200 Grove Street in New Haven, the Grove Street Cemetery is located (also known as New Haven City Burial Ground ). The cemetery area was incorporated as a historic monument by the National Historic Landmark and the NRHP in 1997 (NRHP 97.00083 million ).

According to the census of 2000, there were 824 008 people in the county. There were 319 040 households and 210 566 families. The population density was 525 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 79.40 percent White, 11.32 percent Black or African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 2.33 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 4.51 percent from other races groups. 10.09 percent of the total population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 319 040 households out of which 31.2 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 48.6 percent were married couples living together, 13.6 percent were single mothers. 34.0 percent were non-families. 28.2 percent of all households and 11.0 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.08.

Based on the county the population was spread from 24.5 percent population under 18 years, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 30.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 92.5 males to 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.7 males.

The median income for a household was $ 48,834, and the median income for a family was $ 60,549. Males have a median income of $ 43,643, women $ 32,001. The per capita income was $ 24,439. 9.5 percent of the population and 7.0 percent of families are below the poverty line. This included 13.0 percent of the population under the age of 18 and 7.7 percent of the population aged 65 and over.
