New International Version

The New International Version of the Holy Bible " is a translation of the Bible into contemporary, colloquial English. It is published by the International Bible Society (IBS) and is next to the King James Bible, one of the most widely read English translations of the Bible; they do is modern in the language in which theological orientation conservative Protestant.

Translation

The actual translation work began in 1968. Until the publication in 1978 temporarily worked more than 100 theologians, linguists and historians from more than 20 different denominations in this translation, however, limited to Protestant churches. Even non- theologians and literary critics and journalists have been consulted.

The aim of the project was, according to the IBS "to Accurately and faithfully translate the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic biblical texts into CLEARLY understandable English" - in German: "... the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic texts of the Bible carefully and make true in clear understandable English translate "(see Bible translation ).

1984, the revised version of the text was published. According to the International Bible Society NIV is the end of the 20th century / early 21st century, the best-selling English Bible translation in the world. Meanwhile, originated with the " New International Reader's Version" ( NIRV ) further excited by the IBS translation, which has the goal to achieve especially young readers with a contemporary form of biblical texts and simpler language. Furthermore, the " Todays New International Version" ( TNIV ) which seeks a gender -neutral language in contrast to the NIV and came in conservative circles with resistance exists. Thus one understands the TNIV as additional service, not as a replacement of the NIV. From the TNIV New Testament was published in 2002, since the beginning of 2005, the total output before.

The German translation of the Bible by the International Bible Society (IBS ) is called "Hope for All" ( HFA).
