The Nuovo Partito Socialista Italiano ( German: New Italian Socialist Party ), also known simply Nuovo PSI, is a created on 19 January 2001 from the merger of the Partito Socialista under Gianni De Michelis and the Lega Socialista under Bobo Craxi and Claudio Martelli Social Democratic Party in Italy.

The party is the political successor of the Partito Socialista Italiano and advocates a unit of the Italian Socialists as secular, liberal, reformist and independent social democrats within a social liberalism. In the elections of 2001 and 2006, they entered into a coalition with Silvio Berlusconi's Casa delle Libertà.

Two major spin-offs featuring the history of the party. In October 2005, a new party, I Socialisti Italiani was formed from the party wing of Bobo Craxi ( German: The Italian Socialists ), which is the center- left coalition L' Unione under Romano Prodi joined. In June 2007 there was a further splitting of the Nuovo PSI into two flows: Part came under the leadership of Gianni De Michelis of the new center-left party Partito Socialista (PS ) by Enrico Boselli at while under Stefano Caldoro on the other the belonging to the center-right coalition Casa delle Libertà held. After enduring legitimacy disputes since September 2007 leads the group to Stefano Caldoro on the name of the party. In 2009, the NPSI joined (of Caldoro ) of the Popolo della Libertà, where they remained somewhat autonomous. Thus, the NPSI was represented during the municipal election 2010 in Piemonte and Liguria with its own Parteliste and in Campania in a common list with three other small parties (PRI, Movimento per le autonomy Italiani nel Mondo ), but also there at the side of the center-right bearing.

The official party newspaper is the Socialista Lab.
