The Novo Aeroporto de Lisboa ( German: New Lisbon Airport, NAL) was a scheduled commercial airport in the metropolitan area of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. It was to the prior planning in 2017 to replace or supplement the old Lisbon Portela Airport. To this end, the planning company Novo Aeroporto, SA was founded ( NAER ). It was planned to start construction in late 2010 to early 2011, the project was postponed by the government Passos Coelho lack of financial resources indefinitely.

History

To cope with the increasing volume of air traffic in the long term, plans to build a new airport outside Lisbon were initiated. Several options were discussed: A new 45 km north of the town near the village of Ota Alenquer, a modification of the air base Base Area No. 6 in Samouco or remodeling / expansion of the existing airport Portela.

On 8 May 2008 was finally officially announced that most of the military shooting ranges Campo de Tiro Alcochete (CTA ) Força Aérea Portuguesa on the eastern Tejoseite north of Alcochete to location. The decisive factor was, among other things an already good existing infrastructure, such as connecting Lisbon over the Vasco da Gama Bridge. After the scheduled 2017 completion of the new airport the old Aeroporto is provided as Portela decommissioned and the site be used for other purposes, which is not yet certain, however. The cost is estimated at about 4.9 billion euros.

Project NAL

The future super modern large airport is equipped in the final goal with a total of 4 start and runways with 4000 meters length in a north / south direction, 113 aircraft parking positions, furthermore are 63 passenger walkways, lined up on an x -shaped terminal, the flight passengers. It is connected with a railway connection via a branch line, on the one hand to the high-speed line Madrid - Lisbon and the other hand on the Linha do Alentejo, in Pinhal Novo. Therefore, a new third Tagus bridge is necessary, built between the Lisbon and Barreiro Marvila district on the southern Tagus page.

As of October 2010 has, however, currently downgraded over time because of the euro financial crisis this project. Despite all the difficulties, the Portuguese government is in the process of the planning process in terms of procurement, planning, financing and exploration continue. The publication of a Umsetzbarkeits study from June 2007 and an environmental impact study in October 2010, a first step was to done.
