New Mosque (Thessaloniki)

The Geni Tzami (Greek Γενί Τζαμί ) or Yeni Cami ( Turkish, New Mosque ') is a mosque in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The Italian architect Vitaliano Poselli erected the building in 1902 on behalf of the Dönme Thessaloniki in the style of eclecticism. By the Treaty of Bucharest of 1913, the city was largely dominated Ottoman and Jewish. Since the last Dönme emigrated to Turkey because of population exchange between Greece and Turkey, the building was used from 1924 as an archaeological museum. Meanwhile, the Archaeological Museum has moved, and the building has since then served as an exhibition.
