New Party (Republic of China)

The Xindang (Chinese新 党, Pinyin Xin Dang, english New Party, New Party ', formerly Chinese中华 新 党, Pinyin Zhonghua Xin Dang, Chinese New Party ') is a political party of the conservative spectrum in the Republic of China on Taiwan.

The party was founded in August 1993 as a splinter group of the Kuomintang (KMT ). Cause the spin-off were dissatisfaction with the KMT Chairman and President of the Republic of China Lee Teng- hui. This authoritarian behavior was accused and he was suspected of secretly wanting to give up the goal of reunification with mainland China's Taiwan. Also, a point of criticism was the alleged corruption within the party in the KMT. In the 1990s, the Xindang received influx of unzufriedenenen KMT supporters. In the presidential election in 2000, the Xindang with Li Ao its own candidate on, which reached 0.13 % of the vote. In the elections for the Legislative Yuan in 1995, it reached 21 (12.8%) of 164 seats their best result, then their relative share of the vote fell from in the following parliamentary elections. In the last election to the Legislative Yuan in 2012 the party could win no more direct mandate and the party slipped almost into political insignificance.

On 27 November 2012, the Xindang announced their withdrawal from the KMT -led pan-blue coalition, which had previously belonged to the Xindang. Party Chairman Yok Mu -ming (郁慕明) stated that Xindang have been the KMT supports to prevent the takeover of power by the parties to the pan- green coalition. It should be given the faltering economy development in Taiwan now but at the time to settle the blue-green confrontation. The Xindang wanted to pursue a more independent of the KMT's policy in the future. This decision certainly played a role that Xindang despite the support of the KMT candidate Ma Ying- jeou in the presidential election of 2012 and parliamentary elections in 2012 had not been involved in the subsequently formed KMT -led government.
