New South China Mall

The South China Mall is a shopping center north of Hong Kong in Dongguan, People's Republic of China.

With around 1,500 stores on 660,000 square meters of retail space, the South China Mall is currently the largest mall in the world. It was opened in 2005 and has theme parks, a 553m long roller coaster, an IMAX theater, a hotel complex and a replica of the Arc de Triomphe in original size. The cost of construction amounted to around 1.1 billion euros.

The shopping center has suffered from its opening until today under extreme deficiency customers and resulting high vacancy rate. The South China Mall is seen as one of the biggest mistakes in planning our time. The vacancy rate in the South China Mall is 99 %. Consequently, the shopping center of the category of "Dead Mall " can be assigned.
