New World (band)

New World was an Australian soft - pop band whose biggest hit Tom Tom Turnaround was published in 1971.

Band History

The group was founded in Sydney ( born November 10, 1943) in 1965 by the Briton John Lee ( born March 9, 1944 in Ashtead ) and the Australian Mel Noonan. In 1968, as the third man in the Scotsman John Kane ( born April 18, 1946 in Glasgow ) is added. In Australia they were then becomes one of the most famous bands.

In the early 1970s, the group saw the songwriters Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman on TV. They brought them to Europe and introduced it to the record boss Mickie Most ago, which required the band instantly for his label RAK Records.

Their first release Rosegarden landed in 1971! Number 15 in the UK. Ironically, a version of this song was released at the same time with the country singer Lynn Anderson - and landed at number 1 of many international charts.

The biggest hit of New World should then Tom Tom Turnaround are in the same year that brought it to number 6 in the UK and # 10 in Germany. Kara Kara, also in 1971, was then no longer so successful ( 17th place on the island and number 31 in Germany ). Both titles were in the German version with the singer Peter Orloff successful ( " Cora, come home " or "Whenever I Josy seh ' ").

In 1972 they succeeded with Sister Jane but then again 9th place in England. In the same year they also took more Living Next Door to Alice, but the song flopped. 1976 exactly the same song was re-released, this time with Smokie, and it became a worldwide hit.
