New York Metropolitan Area
, Also Tri -States Area - or tri States called The New York Metropolitan Area Region ( = three- state region ), the metropolitan region around New York City. It is the largest metropolitan area in terms of population, the United States and the sixth largest in the world. It includes parts of the states of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. According to U.S. authorities, there are two definitions for this metropolitan area. The New York -Northern New Jersey - Long Iceland Metropolitan Statistical Area has an area of 17,405 km ² and a population of 18.9 million (as of 2010). The somewhat broader New York - Newark- Bridgeport Combined Statistical Area has even almost 22.1 million inhabitants (as of 2010) to 30,671 km ² surface.
