History

In 1972, the race was called as the first women-only road race advertised by Fred Lebow, founder of the New York City Marathon, and the long-distance running pioneer Kathrine Switzer and interior Nina Kuscsik to life. The first sponsor Johnson Wax had a marathon for women in mind, but Lebow convinced him that a shorter path is more attractive ( in the New York City Marathon last year were only three women at the start). Based on the then fashionable mini skirt and Johnson product Crazylegs the event was named Crazylegs Mini Marathon. When Erstaustragung over a distance of 6 miles ( 9.656 km ) 78 women were an extraordinarily high number of participants at the start, for that time.

Since 1975 is started from the current route length of 10 km.
