History

The first settlements in the present-day Town of Clifton Park originated in the 17th century. To 1723, the area had about 20 white inhabitants and was named Canastigione. 1783 taught Eldert Fischer a ferry across the Mohawk River, which became known as Vischer 's Ferry. The hamlet in the northwest corner of the former NY 146B derives its name from Rexford Flat 's, founded by Edward Rexford. Clifton Park was finally incorporated in 1828 as Clifton and was the last Town, which was set up in Saratoga County.

The track was not yet a State Route, as 1930, the State routes were renumbered. In 1936, when most State Routes were established, the Riverview Road was not handed over to the state. 1947, however, the route NY 146B was already put into service. In 1964, the route of NY 146B from the State was decommissioned. Finally, the route as County Route 91 has been reported and is part of the Mohawk Towpath Scenic Byway.
