New York State Route 169

New York State Route 169 (NY 169 ) is a running in a north-south direction State Route in Herkimer County, New York in the United States. It extended over a length of 20.25 km ( 12.58 Intl. ) From the intersection with NY 5S in the Town of Danube to the intersection with NY 28 and NY 29 in the Village of Middleville and connects the City of Little Falls with the New York State Thruway ( Interstate 90 or I-90 ), which bypasses the city to the south. Outside of Little Falls NY 169 is a two-lane country road that leads through sparsely populated regions. Originally there was the starting point of the road in Little Falls when it was created in the renumbering of highways in New York 1930; it was in the early 1970s South extended to a new exit off the Thruway.

Route description

NY 169 begins near the north exit 29A of the New York State Thruway (I- 90 ) to the intersection with NY 5S in Danube, New York. Initially takes you north through the rural Town and parallel to a road that leads away from the motorway exit to the north over the NY 5S. After about 0.5 km you will unite the two roads, which the NY 169 is connected to the Thruway. NY 169 leads a further 0.4 km in the north to the south bank of the Mohawk River to where it bends to the north- west and the river through a wooded area follows and leads into the City of Little Falls.

When approaching Little Falls the route suggests a slight bend to the north. The road crosses the river, which is here a part of the Erie Canal and to CSX Transportation belonging Mohawk Subdivision and then leads to the intersection with a road with separate carriageways, which are signposted NY 167 and NY 5. NY 169 turns here to the west and reaches approximately 400 m to the western edge of the center. The resulting overlap with NY 167 is opposite to the chainage that route because NY 169 northbound 167 south coincides with NY and vice versa. NY 169 is severed at the East Main Street from NY 5/NY 167 and follows the East Main Street in the center of the city. The road splits three blocks away in a pair of one-way streets, with southbound NY 169 one block offset on the Albany Street runs.

This pair of one-way streets spans three blocks in the Central Business District through to Ann Street. From here runs NY 169 northbound in a residential area. At the intersection of Albany Street and Ann Street meets NY 169 again on the northbound NY 167 this intersection approaching from the west along the Albany Street and the southern direction of NY 169 follows, as they race from Ann Street to the east turn onto Albany Street. NY 169 follows the Ann Street in the north four blocks ( in the opposite direction, there are five ) to Monroe Street, where the road crosses the southern end of NY 170.

The East Monroe Street, east of Ann Street, NY 170 performs as the northern edge of the city along while NY 169 some houses down is from the West Monroe Street to the northwest and eventually led out of the city. Now, in the territory of the Town of Little Falls, the road leads through mostly open area with a small number of scattered houses. They finally reached the Town of Fairfield, where she forges a stronger north -looking and yet more tortuous route. After about 7 km, the road reaches Middleville, about 13 km north-west of Little Falls. In this place NY 169 passes a number of houses before it ends at the intersection with NY 28 and the western terminus of NY 29.

The NY 169 between NY Section 5 and the northern city limits of Little Falls is maintained by the City, but the rest of the highway is subject to the New York State Department of Transportation ( NYSDOT ).

History

The today's NY 169 section between Little Falls and Middleville in 1910 was part of Route 26, an unmarked road by law. It was only marked as 1930, the highways in New York have been renumbered; their starting point was originally in the center of Little Falls. The line was extended southwards in the early 1970s to the NY 5S to tie the new ramp (Exit 29A ) of the New York State Thruway.
