New York State Route 216

New York State Route 216 or shortly NY 216 is a short state highway that runs completely in Dutchess County in New York in the United States. The 10.01 km long Highway connects the New York State Route 52 in Stormville in the East with the New York State Route 55 in Poughquag in the West. State Route 216 in the 1920s was part of the New York State Route 39 In the 1930 renumbering the former NY 39 was re-established as part of New York State Route 52. NY 52 was later the designation NY 216 1970 State Route 216 was truncated to its current eastern terminus in Poughquag.

Route description

The western terminus of NY 216 is located at the intersection with New York State Route 52 in Stormville, directly south of Branton Woods Golf Club. It leads north into the center of Stormville and crosses there the old Route 52, the route bends sharply to the east first and then north before crossing the Phillips Road and leads eastwards from the city. Further east, in the Village Green Haven crosses NY 216 County Road 8 and then several roads of local importance, and then turns north. It crosses in Poughquag County Road 7 south of the cemetery of Beekman NY 216 ends at NY 55

History

Today's State Routes 216 and 55 were in 1926 a part of the former State Route 39 In the 1930 renumbering the section of NY 39 between East Fishkill and the western edge of Patterson neufestgelegten part of New York State Route 52 was the section of the old route 39 between Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill was the New York State Route 202 between Patterson and the intersection with New York State Route 22, the old NY 39 was set as New York State Route 311. Some years later, a section of NY 52 was new as New York State Route 216 signposted.

In 1938, the route curves of NY 52 and NY 216 were exchanged; State Route 52 was between Stormville and Lake Carmel today's routing and the former route between Stormville and Patterson became part of State Route 216, until 1 January 1970, no longer stirred at this alignment, but then State Route 216 has been in Poughquag shortened to the current endpoint. At the same time the previous section of NY 216 between West Pawling and Patterson as New York State Route 292 was reported.
