New Yorker Staats-Zeitung

The New Yorker Staats-Zeitung is a German-language publication and one of the oldest newspapers in the United States of America. It is also known under the name of "The State" and was founded in 1834 by German immigrants. Overall, there are about eight German -language newspapers in the United States. 1968-1969 Herbert Feuerstein was the chief editor of the newspaper.

Initially, the newspaper was published daily, three times a week from 1953 and currently a week. The newspaper tried to convey historical consciousness, informed about events of the German -American community in the tri-state region of New York (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) as well as current events in Germany and exercises in critical discussion of the German -American relations.

From 1934 to 1991 carried the newspaper, after a merger with the German " herald " the title Staatszeitung and Herold. In the 19th century, the newspaper was one of the highest-circulation print media in New York.
